Distribution beyond Spotify
Buzzsprout gives you an RSS feed that any directory can use. Spotify for Creators publishes your show to Spotify automatically. To reach Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Castbox, iHeartRadio, Overcast, Pocket Casts, or others, you enable the RSS feed in Settings > Availability and submit it to each service yourself. Two details from Spotify’s support pages:
- Enabling the RSS feed makes your email address public in the feed.
- Some third-party apps scrape public RSS feeds, so your show may appear on services you didn’t submit to.
Transcripts and files
Spotify says transcripts aren’t available to all creators. If you have them, you can download, edit, and re-upload a VTT or SRT file of up to 5 MB. On Buzzsprout, transcripts are automatic on current paid plans and show up in the RSS feed and on the Buzzsprout website. Spotify lets you download episodes and analytics exports from the web version only.
Getting paid
Spotify’s Partner Program requires that you host with Spotify, live in a supported country, have at least 3 episodes, and have at least 2,000 global consumption hours and 1,000 unique listeners or viewers in the last 30 days. Sponsorships need both Partner Program access and video episodes. Memberships (renamed from Podcast Subscriptions on Oct 20, 2026) need at least 3 episodes, 100 listeners, and 100 consumption hours in 30 days. Open Access supports Patreon and Supporting Cast. Spotify adds that enterprise organizations and publishers may have access to direct sales and Memberships through Megaphone.
Buzzsprout lists Listener Support, Subscriptions, and Buzzsprout Ads among its paid-plan features, and the pricing page doesn’t state an audience threshold for them.
Moving between them
- Buzzsprout to Spotify: Spotify’s Switch page imports your episodes from Buzzsprout and other hosts (Transistor, Libsyn, Podbean, and more). Spotify’s Buzzsprout redirect article says to import your episodes before you redirect your feed. Analytics only count data from after you switch, and Spotify measures plays where other platforms measure downloads.
- Spotify to somewhere else: Spotify has a support article on switching away with a 301 redirect. Buzzsprout lists Easy Podcast Migration among its features. For the general process, read how to move a podcast to a new host.
Which to pick
Pick Spotify for Creators if you want free hosting and are content with a Spotify-centered setup. Pick Buzzsprout if you want a single paid host that treats every directory the same, with transcripts included. If neither fits, compare Transistor vs Buzzsprout and Transistor alternatives.
